More than 70 percent of ready-built houses offered by housing developers in Malaysia comply with Vasthu Sastra (Indian feng shui) and are fit for occupancy, according to T. Selva (pictured), a columnist for Sunday Star.
His survey revealed that builders were incorporating geomancy values during construction, and houses were built on a rectangular or square land plots.
“Developers are more aware of buyers’ demands to incorporate ancient sciences of construction like Vasthu and feng shui in their designs,” he said, noting that Vasthu focuses on harmonious living.
However, Selva, who is the author of the Vasthu Sastra Guide book, observed that problems occurred when property owners made renovations and alterations on the built-up area or land without considering the effects to the dweller and the environment.
“Some extensions are favourable and some are not, depending on which sector of the plot is extended or cut,” he said.
Vasthu is the equivalent of architecture adding a result-oriented science that ensures harmony, explained Selva.
