The Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) is certain that it has properly compensated the former home owners at Kampung Datuk Keramat, according to the firm’s general manager Othman Omar.
This in response to allegations that it had underpaid the former residents of Kampung Datuk Keramat, whose land was used to build a luxury condominium called Datum Jelatek.
He explained that PKNS gave between RM250,000 and RM300,000 to former home owners while shoplot owners were given RM500,000.
“Only 11 families refused to accept our compensation. The rest took the offer and have since bought bungalows and semi-detached houses.”
“Some even bought several units in PKNS projects in Antara Gapi, Serendah and Bandar Baru Bangi,” he said after attending a ground-breaking ceremony for an affordable housing project in Shah Alam.
The 11 families who took the matter to court received not more than RM120,000 from PKNS by way of compensation, he added.
However, compared to the resident’s compensation, units at the condo project were sold for between RM956,000 and RM11.6 million, said the Selangor Anti-Irregularities Federation (GAPS).
Moreover, GAPS President Hamidzun Khairuddin critized PKNS for focusing only on luxury projects.
Khalid, on the other hand, reiterated that PKNS needs to build high-end projects in order to subsidise the development of affordable homes for poor families.
