220-bed tertiary-care hospital cost RM140 million will be build by Manipal Hospitals in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, and set to open in the first half of 2015.
In a statement, it said this was the first major investment in Malaysia’s healthcare sector by the Manipal Group, a global multinational group and an established healthcare provider in India.
The group said its Klang hospital is poised to be the new healthcare provider of distinction in Malaysia, with the benefit of its 63-year legacy.
Moreover, the hospital would have a team of over 300 nursing staff and 60 resident and visiting specialists when commissioned, while offering healthcare services with super specialities like cardiothoracic surgery, neurology and neuro surgery, nephrology, vascular and plastic surgery and paediatric surgery.
Other specialty services are cardiology, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, dental and critical care.
This is in addition to already offered services like general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics and trauma care, ear, nose and throat surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, dermatology and ophthalmology.
The wide range of mutli-speciality services qualifies it to be classified as a tertiary-care hospital, making it the eighth such facility within the group.
According to Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Manipal Hospitals, Asean Region, Ramkumar Akella, the robust healthcare industry and the growth potential, made Malaysia the compelling choice of location for Manipal Hospitals’ expansion outside India.
“Malaysia is a logical choice for the group to expand its services in the healthcare industry, on the back of an already existing Medical college in Melaka and an International University in Nilai.
“The increasingly large ageing population, more affluent and health conscious society, as well as the government’s drive to grow private health care are encouraging signs to set up a chain of private hospitals,” he added.
Ramkumar added that apart from this, Malaysia was also a growing destination for medical tourists and would be made the group’s hub to make inroads into the South East Asian region.
