According to Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, 13 students and three lecturers in from polytechnic and community colleges will be attempting to build 12 units of residences in Tawau.
“These students and lecturers will put their theories into practice by building the houses for the residents of Balung, Apas and Sri Tanjung.”
“The houses will be developed within 30 days with a budget of RM20,000 per house, as this is a way for the students and lecturers to fulfil their social responsibility,” she added.
This idea was inspired by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, who challenged the students of polytechnic and community colleges to test their skills.
“This is a meaningful attempt, as it will not only benefit Tawau, but also the polytechnics,” said Polytechnic Education Department director-general Datuk Mohlis Jaafar.
This project is conducted under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, with the cooperation of the Tawau parliamentary constituency, Tawau Municipal Council and Village Security and Development Committees of the areas involved; meanwhile, the students involved are from the Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan Polytechnics.
