Instead of misleading the people on affordable housing and land sales issues in Kuala Lumpur, Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai should appreciate the efforts by the government in ensuring the urban poor acquire their own homes, said Federal Territories (FT) Minister Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He revealed that 43 of the total land sold were signed, with 28 plots of land earmarked for the development of Federal Territory Affordable Housing (Rumawip). The rest will be used for the construction of 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) and 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M).
“Areas sold for this development involve non-feasible hawker centre reserves, squatter settlements, public housing spaces, reserved open spaces and staff quarters,” said Tengku Adnan.
He noted that more than 50,000 Rumawip units were developed.
And while the selling price of the houses was based on present prices, some were offered at a discount via cross-subsidisation, in which developers were forced to sell the homes from RM42,000 to RM230,000.
“The value gives benefits to the people as buyers who can enjoy lower house prices than the real market value.”
If Tan believes that the land sales were made for bribes or personal gain, then the MP should state his allegations more clearly so that he could report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or take legal action.
Tan had reportedly claimed that 45 parcels of land were sold without open tender in Kuala Lumpur between 2013 and July this year.
Tengku Adnan started his service as FT Minister in May 2013.
