Malaysian police officers have apprehended four individuals for their alleged involvement in a criminal organisation that tricks people in buying non-existent houses at Sungai Tua in Selayang, reported The Star.
Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy, the Officer in Charge of the Police District (OCPD) in Sentul, revealed that they found out about the property scam after one of the victims filed a police report on 18 April.
“The victim, a woman, claimed she had seen an advertisement online and went to a showroom at Jalan Segambut where she was offered a unit for RM120,000.”
“The agents claimed that she only needed to pay a booking fee of RM5,000, which she did,” he told the media at Sentul police headquarters on Tuesday (25 April).
But due to suspicions, the victim went to the Selayang Municipal Council to verify the validity of the residential project, and she was informed that there is no record for such housing development.
“Following the report, we raided several locations and arrested three men and a woman aged between 31 and 51. One of the suspects was previously involved in another scam to sell non-existent vehicles,” noted Munusamy, adding that they are now looking for two more suspects.
So far, a number of victims have come forward to the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). They have submitted 16 police reports, with total losses amounting to approximately RM80,000, he added.
