Residents of Section 14, Petaling Jaya called for assurance from the Works Ministry that the planned highway project within their neighbourhood will not push through, reported The Star.
This comes as the Selangor government has already assured them that the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) project will not proceed as planned.
“We have written confirmation from the Selangor government that the highway will not take place,” said the residents’ representative Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir.
“We also want the Works Ministry to assure us that the highway project will not take place.”
The much-talked about highway project is speculated to replace the Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex), which was cancelled.
To put an end to speculations, Sheikh Moqhtar said residents want to speak directly with the minister.
“We have neighbours who bought their properties about two years ago, and they are equally worried that a highway project will result in their houses being acquired.”
He noted that many residents who are on their twilight years want to hand down their property to their children, while others do not want an elevated highway right in front of their houses.
“We have been living here for a long time. Our plea must be heard too.”
In expressing his support to the residents, Petaling Jaya Utara MCA chairman Tan Gim Tuan said Petaling Jaya City Council and the Selangor government “must be mindful when approving high-density projects in Section 13 and Section 52”.
This is because such projects will “definitely change the traffic pattern in the city and affect some residents such as those living in Section 14, which is nearby Section 13 and Section 52”.
