Putrajaya is considering a lawmaker’s suggestion that resale of low-cost housing should only be allowed to first-time home buyers, according Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Senator Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad.
In a report by Bernama, he said that while sub-sales of residential properties don’t fall under the the Housing Developers (Control and Licensing) Act of1966 (Act 118), the proposal is good. So the federal government is studying whether to implement it or not.
“This is one of our objectives to ensure that those who have yet to own a house will be given a priority,” he said during a parliamentary session on Wednesday (31 Oct).
“This is because some of them have waited for years for the opportunity, while some people, for reasons that we cannot understand, had somehow managed to own not one, but several units of affordable and low-cost houses.”
He lauded the suggestion of Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai, saying that the federal government will look into it so that low-cost housing will only be sold to people who truly need it.
