PM Najib Asked to Stop Destruction of Taman Rimba Kiara

Residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) are pleading to Prime Minister Najib Razak for help after construction work started on a controversial project in Taman Rimba Kiara (TRK) park, with workers cutting down trees, reported The Edge.

TTDI Residents’ Association (RA) are appealing for PM Najib’s compassion to immediately stop the destruction of TRK park for the benefit of Malaysia’s future generations. They are also angry that construction work commenced in spite of a pending judicial review.

“Joint property developers Malton Bhd and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan have displayed bad faith and arrogance by showing absolutely no regard whatsoever to this ongoing legal suit that has yet to be concluded,” said TTDI RA Chairman Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar.

TTDI residents are also outraged that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) permitted the development to proceed despite massive objection by people living in the area.

“This is despite the repeated outpour of public objections and appeals. This appalling attitude of DBKL has in many ways created very negative perceptions amongst the Rakyat.”

“In this particular situation, it is no fault of the people to feel desperate and helpless. They now realise they cannot rely on a local government agency like DBKL to promote their wellbeing.”

On Wednesday evening (14 March), Malton’s 51-percent-owned unit Memang Perkasa started clearing out trees in TRK’s upper portion. They also closed the park’s main entrance to facilitate construction works.

This is despite a pending judicial review on the project’s approval that will be heard on 18 April.

The controversial development comprises a 30-storey affordable housing block with 350 units and six blocks of 42- and 52-storey luxury serviced apartments with 1,766 units. Overall, 2,116 homes will be built, increasing the area’s population density from 74 persons per acre to 979 persons per acre.
