Initiated by the Housing and Local Government (KPKT), the Highland Towers Redevelopment Committee has over the past two months identified the ownership status of another 21 units within the Highland Towers condominium at Bukit Antarabangsa, Kuala Lumpur, reported The Edge.
KPKT Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin revealed that the owners of the 11 units are still alive, while the owners of six units are absent. The owners of the remaining four units have already passed away with no heirs left.
The Malaysia Insolvency Department noted that each of the three towers at the doomed development have 50 units – for a total of 150 units.
Since its creation at end-June, the redevelopment committee had uncovered the ownership status of a total of 148 condominium units. Aside from the 21 units discussed earlier, Regal Fields Development Sdn Bhd own 111 units, 12 units are owned by individuals who are in the midst of seeking compensation, while the owners of four units have no plan to claim compensation. Two more units are unsold.
The ministry has called on Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya to review the 1994 demolition notice’s validity and to reapply for one in the event it has expired.
