Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad revealed on Friday (14 Sept) that a special committee his agency has formed is recommending that 43 out of 97 land sales entered into by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) should be allowed to proceed, reported Bernama.
On the other hand, a legal case was filed for one land deal, 10 transactions were terminated, while another 23 were suspended and are currently under negotiations.
“Of the 23 suspended land transactions, 13 are for the Federal Territory Affordable Home programme (RUMAWIP).”
The committee, which was created on 31 July, also recommended that another 20 deals be scrutinised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and its report was officially sent to the agency on 4 September for its action.
“The total area of land for all 97 transactions covered 675.27 acres (273 hectare) or 1.1 percent of the total area of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur,” Khalid told the media.
Before, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng filed a report with the anti-corruption watchdog to look into the sale of 64 land plots for a total of RM4.28 billion to the Federal Territories Foundation in 2013 during the term of former Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Separately, Khalid divulged that the Deepavali bazaar that will start on 1 Oct would be held at Masjid India for the last time, after several parties such as hawkers’ associations appealed the decision to stop the event from be held at the said location.
“However, we only allocated 100 lots in the area from Semua House to a spot opposite Maybank Masjid India only.”
Previously, Kuala Lumpur City Hall decided to no longer allow the Deepavali bazaar to be held at Masjid India after various parties asked DBKL to move the event to another location as it prevented people from reaching Wisma Yakin.
