Work on UDA Holdings Bhd’s (UDA) housing project in Kampung Skudai has yet to start pending a RM50million allocation issue with the government, reported The Borneo Post.

“I hope that once the allocation issue is resolved, UDA will be able to start building the houses for the people in the area as it had been promised following a fire in 2004,” said Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Chairman of UDA.

“Right now we are waiting for further action from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who had visited the Pulai Parliament (constituency) recently where he had promised allocation for the housing project.”

The housing project, which involves the resettlement of squatters in the Kampung Skudai Kiri, will be developed on a land owned by the Finance Ministry. In highlighting the importance of the allocation from the government, Nur Jazlan said the UDA could not start the housing project without it.

With a total cost of RM200 million, the project will comprise 2,000 low-cost houses located on a 14-hectare land.

“The development of the housing project in Kampung Skudai Kiri is also in line with my aspiration, as the people’s representative, to develop the squatter area and make it part of the success of Iskandar Malaysia,” he added.
