Scripps Networks Interactive launched top-rated U.S. home and lifestyle channel HGTV in Malaysia on Astro, the largest pay-TV operator in the market. HGTV made its debut on Astro Channel 731 on the 31st of August as the first regional channel dedicated to the growing home and lifestyle category in Malaysia.

Astro customers can catch top-rated programmes like Property Brothers, starring Canadian twins and real estate experts Drew and Jonathan Scott, Cousins Undercover featuring real-life construction experts, Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri, and Fixer Upper, starring home renovation power couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines. Viewers can also look forward to new exciting series featuring top celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres in Ellen’s Design Challenge and William Shatner in The Shatner Project.

In addition to these established series, Scripps Networks is dedicated to commissioning local originations as well. HGTV will launch with locally produced series Extreme Homes Asia which gives viewers a chance to peer inside some of the region’s most unusual homes and Asia Traditions, a short-form series featuring inspired Asian architecture and unique home design.

“After only launching regionally in Asia at the end of 2014, HGTV has quickly become the number one lifestyle channel in Singapore. This is a great achievement for the team, and I am confident the channel will receive the same outstanding response in Malaysia. Viewers can look forward to being entertained by HGTV’s fun loving hosts while being inspired by fresh ideas and personal heartwarming stories about the home. I would like to thank the Astro team for all of their support and we are excited to work with them to bring the HGTV experience into their viewer’s homes,” said Scripps Networks Asia-Pacific managing director Derek Chang.

“We see HGTV as a great addition to our current lifestyle offering. As the only channel dedicated to the home and lifestyle category in Malaysia, we are confident that our viewers will identify with HGTV’s programming and hosts. We look to work closely with the Scripps Networks team to bring more of its compelling content to Malaysia along with unique opportunities to bring our customers closer to their favorite HGTV personalities,” said Astro vice president content management group Agnes Rozario.

Since its Asia-wide launch in December 2014, the channel has expanded its distribution across the region and is now available on Astro in Malaysia, StarHub in Singapore, Fetch TV in Australia, SKYcable and Cignal in the Philippines, and Univision in Mongolia.

The HGTV launch is supported by PropertyGuru Malaysia, Asia’s leading online property portal. It is now the fastest growing property portal in Malaysia with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. There are over 1.8 million visitors viewing more than 13 million property pages monthly, attributed to a large growth in agent members, real estate developers, and bank clients.
