Jalan Damanseri Remains Closed

31 May 2017

Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Damanseri link bridge would remain closed even though some residents want to re-open it, said the developer that owns the private lane in a report by The Star.

For the people who frequently use the road connecting Jalan Damansara with Jalan Damanlela, they can take alternate routes to get to their destinations, said a spokeswoman for the developer undertaking the development of a mixed-use project near the link bridge.

“There is an alternative road now for them to use while the construction for the new project is on-going,” she said, adding that they have closed the link bridge to improve the traffic system in the vicinity.

The new traffic system and the new roads are expected to be completed by 2020.

On Monday, residents from Damansara Heights and Federal Hill impacted by the road closure held a press conference to call for the re-opening of Jalan Damanseri, which has been existing for over 30 years but was closed by the developer on 6 May.

Without access to the link bridge, the residents said they would spend more time to reach Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya as they need to use a longer route.

While the notice posted by the developer next to the closed link bridge show alternate routes they can take, the residents claimed that the closure was done without any prior notice.

When contacted, a representative from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the developer failed to inform them regarding the closure of Jalan Damanseri.

“Any road closure affecting the public should get an approval from DBKL,” said the spokesperson.

However, the spokeswoman for the developer insisted that they have followed the proper procedure before closing the link bridge.

“Several meetings were held with DBKL and the Residents’ Association invited by city hall on the proposed road closure, which was then subsequently approved by the authorities.”

“We also notified the public through an advertisement in various newspapers and distributed flyers to the residents on May 5. A traffic consultant was also hired to assess the traffic system at the affected areas prior to the road closure,” she added.

Among developments in and around Damansara are:

1. Glomac Residensi Damansara

2. Hampton Damansara
