Johor Housing and Rural Development Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that 9,537 People’s Housing Project (PPR) units have been completed in Johor from 2006 to this year, reported The Star.
Projects completed include PPR Uda Utama, PPR Pelangi Indah and PPR Setia Indah.
For next year, a total of 2,272 PPR units are set to be completed, involving PPR Melana Indah’s Phase II (1,450 units), PPR Pengerang (300) and PPR Taman Perling (522).
Dzulkefly added that about 730 units are slated for completion by 2020, involving PPR Masai (330 units) and PPR Bandar Tenggara (400 units), while 1,600 units are expected to be completed by 2021, involving PPR Ulu Tiram (700), PPR Sembrong (500) and PPR Permas Jaya (400).
Dzulkefly was responding to Datuk Zahari Sarip’s (BN-Buluh Kasap) query on the number of PPR units that are currently being built during the state assembly at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar.
A relocation programme for those residing in squatters, PPR was aimed at helping the lower income group have a proper residential unit, he added.
“The PPR project in Johor is developed by the Local Government and Housing Ministry and handed to the state housing secretary to manage, where the monthly rent fee is RM124 a month,” said Dzulkefly.
“Besides that, the state government has recommended several locations in the state to the ministry for their future consideration including Johor Baru, Kulai, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat and Muar.”
