Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) councillors Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani and Khoo Khim Han called on contractors to finish the projects given to them within the deadline, otherwise risk being penalised.
They made the statement after finding that upgrading works at the Bukit Angsana playground were behind schedule, reported The Star.
The contractors failed to complete the project by end-November, the deadline given to them by MPKj.
“Now, they have been given until mid-December to finish it, failing which 25 percent of their agreed payment or RM5,000 will be deducted,” said Khoo, while noting that MPKj would blacklist errant contractors.
“The project costs RM20,000 and the funds came from the allocation for small projects from the MP’s budget.”
The works include repairing broken kerbs and upgrading the jogging track’s pavement.
And while some residents had asked for the widening of the jogging track, the same could not be done since the existing track complied with the standard set by MPKj, said Khoo.
Meanwhile, Nur Zulaila revealed that residents had complained of the delay.
“The project stated that 650 sq m of the jogging track was to be re-tarred, however only 430 sq m was done,” she said.
“The funds earmarked earlier for the jogging track will be used to improve the entrance instead.”
