Red Shirts Leader Appeal Delay On Eviction From “Charity Restaurant” For Illegally Occupying Government Land

The controversial owner of a charity restaurant in Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur that provides free food to the poor is requesting the Federal Territories Land Administrator to postpone their eviction, reported the Malay Mail.

“Give us time to find a new location to move things and equipment currently at Restoran Gabungan NGO 1 Malaysia (RGN1M),” said restaurant owner Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, who is also the Division Chief of Sungai Besar UMNO.

Notably, he is a fugitive, who is currently facing another arrest warrant for failing to show up in court for allegedly causing public nuisance by breaking beer bottles in front of the Selangor State Secretary (SUK) building in October 2017.

“Besides, workers at RGN1M have already started going on leave to celebrate Hari Raya on Friday,” he said in a prepared statement.

On Tuesday (12 June), he posted on his restaurant’s Facebook account that the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office sent an eviction notice to his establishment on Friday.

The notice stated that the restaurant occupied government land without permission in violation of the National Land Code of 1965’s Section 425(1).

As such, Federal Territories Land and Mines Office has ordered the restaurant’s owner to tear down the property and vacate the land by 18 June.

Otherwise, the government will clear out the site, and the restaurant’s owner could be imprisoned for up to five years or pay a fine of RM500,000.

Originally, the RGN1M eatery in Jalan Pahang was opened October 2016 as part of Jamal’s charitable feeding program, following the opening of his first restaurant at his birthplace of Sekinchan, Selangor.
