Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has allocated RM3 million for nine infrastructure projects that were put forward during the budget workshop last year with the community. Thus far, only the vertical garden, rooftop and pocket park within the city centre have been built at a cost of RM300,000.
The remaining eight projects, including the upgrading of playground equipment and Section 10 public park, low carbon city programme and landscaping of Shah Alam Walk, have yet to be completed, reported The Star.
Shah Alam mayor Datuk Haris Kasim emphasised that community feedback was important for MBSA to know the issues within the city.

“We are taking a people-centric approach which allows those in the city council’s administration to present ideas. This will also enable us to know the needs and requirements of the people,” said Haris during the 2020 Budget Workshop launch.
“From time to time, the budget allocation for these new developments increase because the expenditure will usually cover both development and management costs,” he added.
Finance Department director Affandi Jaafar said that in contrast to 2018, there was an increase in tax collection this year through MBSA’s campaigns and partnerships with several organisations.
For 2020, Haris revealed that the budget’s focus would lean towards development instead of management, which had been the focus in the past years.
The categories discussed at the workshop included low carbon city awareness programmes, environmental health and public facilities as well as community development.
