IJM Land Unveils Completion of Bukit Kukus Roundabout at Bukit Jambul, a Milestone in Sustainable Infrastructure

George Town – Drivers in the Bukit Jambul area can now experience a refreshed roundabout, thoughtfully redesigned by IJM Land Berhad (‘IJM Land’) to integrate modern design with sustainability. The upgraded infrastructure enhances the surrounding landscape, complements the nearby development and supports future connectivity.

The landscape design of the Bukit Kukus Roundabout harmoniously blends nature, cultural identity and contemporary aesthetics. Inspired by the theme “Summit of Opportunities,” the design reimagines the hill as a symbol of success, growth and resilience. This vision draws inspiration from the Malay proverb, “Sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi bukit” (Bit by bit, the hill is built), reflecting aspirations for progress and achievement.

Completed in just five months, the roundabout forms part of the Bukit Kukus paired road network, enhancing interconnection and serving as a vital link between Bukit Jambul, Relau, Paya Terubong and Balik Pulau. It benefits both IJM’s developments in the area and the broader local community through improved accessibility and strengthen infrastructure.

This project is a testament to the successful collaboration under the MBPP-IJM CSR initiative, showcasing a shared commitment to sustainable and impactful urban development. It celebrates diversity and inclusivity, reflecting Malaysia’s multi-ethnic narratives that regard hills as symbols of opportunity and strength.

Sustainability is at the core of the design. Materials such as crushed roof tiles and locally sourced granite emphasise environmental responsibility, while the lowmaintenance planting scheme ensures longevity and minimises environmental impact. Key features, including perimeter hedges and granite-clad walls, promote harmony between urban infrastructure and nature.

IJM Land established its presence in the Bukit Jambul area since the 1990s and has been consistently shaping the area’s development with its diverse projects. Today, the Bukit Kukus Roundabout represents another milestone in its continuous pursuit of sustainable growth and urban enhancement.

“We’re pleased to play a part in creating an urban space that improves connectivity and infrastructure, supporting our continued commitment to sustainable growth and community development,” said Goh Su Yin, General Manager (Northern Region) of IJM Land.
