To boost its current orderbook of over RM2 billion, Bina Puri Holdings hopes to clinch at least RM1 billion worth of construction jobs this year out of the RM5 billion worth of projects it has tendered for so far, according to its Group Executive Director Datuk Matthew Tee Kai Woon.
“Some of the projects we are eyeing this year include the RM9 billion LRT3 project and MRT projects, as we already have prior experience in these areas.” Other works it has bid for involve putting up roads, homes, government buildings, and flood mitigation jobs.
In 2016, the construction and property company secured about RM800 million worth of jobs all primarily from the government, which awarded a total of around RM60 billion worth of contracts last year compared to RM22 billion in 2015. The largest constructions works handed out through different series of packages involved MRT 2 and the Pan Borneo Highway.
Moving forward, construction firms like Bina Puri are expected to benefit from an anticipated wave of new developments, as more projects are likely to be rolled out before the next General Election, which is widely speculated to be called this year, said Tee. Likewise, the ongoing implementation of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) that begun in 2016 will bring about a continued inflow of jobs for the sector.
