Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that a permanent building for the King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP) will be constructed on a 16ha site at Putrajaya, reported Bernama.
The creation of a permanent structure for KSCIP was decided after talks with top officials from Saudi Arabia, including Crown Prince Mohammed Salman, who visited the Prime Minister’s official home in Putrajaya on Saturday night.
“The construction of KSCIP in Putrajaya reflects the importance of the institution, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia himself will come to Malaysia to launch the centre together with me.”
“This is because King Salman could have chosen any other country to build the centre, but the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques chose this country,” he said.
Najib stated this during an Aidilfitri open house he jointly hosted with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at Taman Tasik Sultan Abu Bakar, Pekan on Sunday that was participated by over 50,000 people.
At present, the KSCIP performs its function from an office in Kuala Lumpur. As the brainchild of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud, its objective is to promote universal peace and stop the influence of extremism and terrorism from spreading.
Regarding Saturday’s meeting, Najib revealed that it is talking with Saudi Arabia’s government for the building of two Tabung Haji complexes in Madinah and Makkah that would help lower the cost for Malaysians who are going to do the Haj pilgrimage in the future.
Furthermore, he announced that the federal government has spent RM3 billion on five Aidilfitri aid packages it distributed to around 9.6 million people throughout the month of Ramadan.
“Among the assistance given were in the form of rice aid to civil servants and pensioners, dividends to smallholders, the second stage of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) given to seven million recipients, as well as Raya incentives.”
