When fully completed, the facility offers the potential to support the growing construction market in Southeast Asia
Announces partnership with PCCW Global to deliver a digital framework
Unveils conceptual design plans for Forest City landmark building
JOHOR, MALAYSIA, 4 AUGUST 2017 – Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV), the master developer of Forest City, today opened the world’s largest Industrialised Building System (IBS) factory – based on single factory production volume – at Forest City in the Iskandar Region.
The factory incorporates technology from Germany, Italy and China, and has the capacity to produce materials for up to 1 million square meters of built-up area.
It will house the entire production base for the construction of Forest City, and integrate construction design, precast concrete production, transportation, processing of accessories, assembly construction, as well as materials research and development.
Country Garden Pacificview has plans to add up to five additional factories to the 417-acre site. When fully completed, it will comprise six factories that will be able to produce materials required to support the equivalent of 6 million square meters of built-up area, potentially making it the largest such facility globally.
While the initial focus of the facility will be to accelerate the development of Forest City, excess capacity will also be used to support the growing construction opportunities in Southeast Asia.
IBS is a modern construction technique that standardises the design process, while digitising, automating and modernising the processes of construction and building parts production.
Prefabricated and prefinished structural components are manufactured in a controlled environment before being transported and installed or assembled on site. Not only does the technology deliver better construction quality at higher productivity levels, it also helps to reduce risks related to occupational safety and health, and alleviates the need for skilled workers.
Most importantly, the IBS method results in the ultimate goal of lowering the overall costs of construction.
“Based on our extensive experience in building hundreds of townships in China, we have seen that IBS creates a safer, more efficient work environment, and achieves a faster project completion while reducing overall costs,” said Mr Su Baiyuan, Chief Executive Officer, Country Garden Pacificview.
“Our goal is to create a world-class, sustainable township in Southeast Asia that supports a futuristic urban lifestyle. Our development’s custom-designed features are holistic and sustainable, and we are committed to becoming a role model for green and smart living.”
Partnership with PCCW Global to Advance Forest City’s Smart City Aspirations
Following December 2016’s MOU with Malaysia’s Celcom Axiata Bhd to develop a network infrastructure, Country Garden Pacificview today announced a strategic collaboration with PCCW Global that will advance its smart city aspirations for Forest City. With today’s agreement, PCCW Global will provide an energy-efficient data center that will enable Forest City with a future-proof digital framework.
Businesses and residents be able to access a portfolio of best-in-class integrated communications solutions, as well as smart energy, transport and utility management services that are environmentally friendly and protected against physical and cyber threats. PCCW Global’s clients in the region will also benefit from these solutions.
“We see the Forest City project as an exciting development and a solid example of the success of the “One Belt One Road” initiative to foster cooperation between Malaysia and China, and now Hong Kong,” said Craig Price, Senior Vice President, International Projects – HKT Global Development Services. “Both Forest City and PCCW Global share a similar technical vision to create a world class smart environment for living, working and play.”
The delivery of additional value-added services such as security, video or application suites can be easily added on-demand as well as integrated with connectivity to public clouds and other infrastructure to create enhanced, enterprise-level services.
By drawing down on the expertise of leading companies such as the PCCW Group, including HKT and PCCW Global, Forest City is strongly positioning itself to be a successful enterprise and a leading development in Southeast Asia.
Iconic design for Forest City landmark building unveiled
The development today also unveiled the design of its landmark building. The building will be located in the heart of the development’s commercial area on Island 1. Its façade will feature the vertical greenery distinctive of Forest City, and offer 270-degree views of the ocean.
Situated close to the monorail stop, central medical district and the marina, the landmark building is a mixed-use development that will include offices, duty-free shops and customised conference centres when completed in 2020. It could also provide space for incubating entrepreneurs and start-ups.
