The state government of Penang has completed the construction of 24,277 units of low-cost dwellings from 2008 to last year, and is currently building an additional 17,686 homes.
“We have also approved plans for another 32,248 units, making it a total of 74,161 units of various types of affordable housing for Penangites,” said the state’s Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee Chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.
Meanwhile, he highlighted the unfairness of the federal government for not undertaking 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Programme (PPA1M) and 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) developments in opposition-controlled Penang.
“If Barisan Nasional promised to solve the country’s housing problem during their election campaigns, I welcome it, but they need to explain why there has not been any PR1MA and PPA1M units in the state.”
Jagdeep said this during a recent press conference at the Taman Free School flats. He also distributed free oranges to the residents for the Chinese Lunar New Year during a health camp conducted by his constituency at the Block KG community hall.
