Consortium Zenith: Parties Spreading Fake Penang Tunnel News Will be Sued

With the company and the project being the subject of political talking points, Vertice Bhd-unit Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZC) –which is the main contractor of the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project – warned that it will sue any party spreading fake news regarding the project and the company, reported The Edge.

“As an apolitical business entity, CZC respects constructive criticisms which were given in good faith based on actual facts and figures. However, it is regrettable that politically-motivated allegations were relentlessly and unjustly hurled at CZC by irresponsible parties,” it said.

It noted that the while the allegations cannot be substantiated, it had cast doubts on the project.

“CZC reiterates that any speculation, insinuation or aspersion upon CZC or the project by any parties are deemed as defamatory,” it added.

“CZC shall initiate defamation suits against such parties who spread fake news and false information about CZC and/or the project through media platforms including social media and other channels.”

Nonetheless, CZC reaffirms its commitment to complete the project.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, CZC is committed to ensure the full delivery of the project to our client.”

The state government had awarded the mega project, comprising three major roads and a 7.2km undersea tunnel, to CZC via an open tender in 2013.
