Evict Foreign Tenants or Face Action, Warns Zuraida

Owners of People’s Housing Project take note! The new housing government is giving owners of PPR units 90 days to evict foreign tenants otherwise the ministry will have to forcibly remove them once the grace period is over.

Homeowners who fail to do so would be subjected to action, which include the cancellation of their home ownership rights, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin as reported in the New Straits Times.

Action will be taken first on PPR homes under the ministry, followed by those in the other sectors, she explained.

“Our officials will issue a circular on it.”

Zuraida also revealed that the ministry is looking to redevelop the residential area at Highland Towers, which was abandoned for nearly 30 years when one of the housing blocks collapsed during a major landslide incident.

“The remaining blocks have now turned into a nest for addicts and criminals, and it worries people in the area,” she added, while pledging to coordinate the matter with the relevant authorities to address the issue.
