Not all developments implemented by the prior administration will be cancelled. Those that significantly help Malaysians will proceed as planned, said Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in a report by Bernama.
“People-centric and high-impact projects” that will continue include those boost the safety, welfare and living standards of all people living across the country, especially for those living in the countryside.
“Among others, works related to highway and bridge construction, water and power supply, safety and health, and schools and places of worship will go on.”
“Projects that are delayed or cancelled are (redundant) mega projects because existing facilities are sufficient to meet public needs. So, we feel there is a need for a list of priorities,” he said during a Parliamentary session on Tuesday (14 August).
Previously, The Associated Press (AP) reported that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will try to negotiate with China to scrap the RM55 billion East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) as well as the of RM9.41 billion Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) and Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP) in a bid to slash the country’s debt of over RM1 trillion.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin revealed that the authorities have earmarked RM31.5 million for Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) to fund the development and improvement of buildings, infrastructure and other facilities.
“We have 317 Felda settlements nationwide, which include religious schools and community halls. We will use money from that allocation to improve lighting in Felda areas,” he noted.
