Taman Rimba Kiara Development Still Hounded By Legal Issues

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh believes that consultations with the Attorney General (AG) should be made regarding the Taman Rimba Kiara development, as it involves compensation utilising government funds.

Believing that the AG’s input on the matter was highly needed, she asked if Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad consulted Tommy Thomas, reported The Star.

“Khalid had previously talked about compensation (from the government to private developer) if the project is cancelled. Since it involves government funds, the AG should rightfully be consulted,” she stated.

Before the holding of the general elections last year, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents opposed a proposed housing development project composed of eight blocks of high-end apartments and a block of affordable homes for Bukit Kiara longhouse residents.

The residents feared the development might encroach into the park.

This fear prompted the ongoing legal battle between authorities and the Taman Tun Dr Ismail residents.

Khalid in his role as FT Minister renegotiated the agreement with the developer and later came up with a toned-down version of the project, which cut the number of residential units in half.

He also disclosed that a paper on the proposal has been prepared and is set to be tabled during the Cabinet meeting.

Yeoh, however, emphasised that “our proposal for affordable housing to be built on the current longhouse footprint still stands.”

“We welcome the issue being brought to Cabinet; this is clearly a case of conflict of interest,” she added.

Yeoh was alluding to the fact of Khalid being the FT minister and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) at the same time.

YWP is currently the registered proprietor of the land set for the development.

“Previously, TTDI resident and former Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the matter. I also lodged similar reports but how come there is no action?” wondered yeoh.

In the meantime, TTDI residents have also drafted a paper that will be submitted together with Khalid’s cabinet paper.

“We stand firm and propose two solutions. One is to cancel the whole project and another is to allow the project to be built within the longhouse footprint and not encroach into the park.

“We can get into the details of temporary rehousing of the Bukit Kiara longhouse residents once Cabinet has decided,” said Yeoh.
