Perak Govt Plans To Build New Airport, Extend Runway At Existing Airport

The Perak state government is planning to build a new airport as well as extend Sultan Azlan Shah Airport’s (LTSAS) runway to meet the demand coming from domestic investors and the needs of medical tourists.

Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad believes the success of the plans would depend on the financial capability of the government due to the high expenditure costs, reported Bernama.

“The existing runway at the LTSAS in Ipoh cannot accommodate large aircraft. If we want to extend the airport runway, we have to pay high compensation because it is close to schools and housing areas,” he said after launching the Perak Mobile Store (KBNP) at the Arena Square Lawin.

Saarani, who also serves as Kota Tampan Assemblyman, shared that the state government is aware that investors and tourists want direct flights to Ipoh.

Meanwhile, he shared that 40 KBNP will be set up across the state in a bid to help people affected by COVID-19 get dry and fresh goods at lower and economical prices.
