Project delay irks home-buyers

By Farah Wahida:

Home buyers at the Taman Apas Permai development are deeply frustrated over the long delay of the project supposed to be delivered back in 2010.

According to Melvin Abd Hamid, member of the Taman Apas Permai special task force committee, the house buyers are disappointed with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), consultant and contractor for failing to deliver on schedule.

The group is now asking SPNB to issue a letter confirming that delayed delivery of house keys was due to the failure of the construction project to comply with standard requirements for an occupancy certificate (OC).

While the buyers are looking forward to moving into the homes, the site still looks more like a construction site; hence, moving in might endanger their safety.

The house keys were originally set to be delivered yesterday but was cancelled or deferred due to controversial matters involving the house buyers as well as the SPNB and the contractor yesterday.

The house key delivery ceremony supposedly involves 175 units of single-storey low to medium-cost homes for Block B and Block C1-C4 and 10 shop houses. Meanwhile, Block A and Block C are still pending for completion.

“Today, we want the conditional OC or temporary OC to be withdrawn and the house keys delivery ceremony cancelled. We will not collect our house keys if the housing construction fails to meet the standard specifications. We will wait and only collect our house keys once an actual complete OC has been issued certifying that the construction is fully in compliance with the standard specifications for safety purposes,” said Melvin.

“Besides that, we also want to be paid our compensation for the delay of the project completion and delivery progress, right up to the day of issue of the actual complete OC together with delivery of the house keys.”
