The completion of the police station in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang has been moved to 22 October from its initial target of June, reported The Star.
The project contractor attributed the delay to the bullet-proofing of the police station’s walls.
“The police station and quarters will have bulletproof walls,” Sakiman Muhammad Yusuf, executive director of Jutabina Sempurna Sdn Bhd, said during a press conference.
He noted that such feature was for the safety of the police personnel.
Set to be staffed by 80 policemen, the new police station features 19 units of staff quarters.
Gunaraj George, chairman of Bandar Country Homes Phase 7 Residents Association, welcomed the news as the police beat-base within the area was not enough to cater to the housing area as well as the surrounding area.
“We are looking forward to having a full-fledged police station in our midst, we have been waiting for 20 years,” he said.
“We are happy that the developer has allocated a shoplot to be turned into a community police beat-base but it only has four policemen.”
In 2016, it was reported that there were around 80,000 people living within the surrounding neighbourhoods like Taman Desa Mas, Taman Saujana Rawang, Emerald East, Emerald West, Taman Desa Mutiara, Puteri Heights, Anggun City, Anggun and Kampung Sungai Bakau.
Moreover, it was reported that residents of Bandar Country Homes including those within the surrounding areas sent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak a memorandum with 4,000 signatures in 2012 requesting for the construction of a police station in the area, and approval was handed out a year later.
Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei, who was also present at the press conference, said the police station had been much awaited by the residents as the current police beat base could not cope with the large area and number of residents.
“I hope the public can be the eyes and ears of the police and work hand-in-hand with the police to ensure the safety of the community,” said Gan.
