Residents at First Garden Flats can look forward to a cleaner environment as Buntong Caring Community House (BCCH) has agreed to help create the new management committee for the residential development, reported The Star.
This comes as no other parties offered to help maintain and manage the flats, said BCCH Chairman P. Matthew.
In February, it was reported that large amounts of rubbish were once again seen at First Garden Flats barely a month following a major clean-up operation there.
“The residents’ committee has been trying to get people to come in but was unsuccessful,” explained Matthew, who also serves as chairman of 1Malaysia Complaints and Service Centre.
“So I decided to step in and I have already signed an agreement with them.”
He revealed that the management committee will be responsible for the security, cleanliness, maintenance and repairs of the flats.
“In the short term, we hope the residents will pay the RM60 maintenance fees so we can carry out some basic maintenance work,” he said, noting that about 150 homeowners and tenants are still living in the flats.
“We have sent in an application to the 1Malaysia Maintenance Fund Programme (TP1M) but have yet to receive any feedback.”
While they expect the residents to resist the management fee, Matthew said they have already engaged a lawyer to help prepare a “notice to the residents there to make the payment”.
“The money is for the maintenance and cleaning of the flats. Everything costs money.”
Earlier in the month, about 100 volunteers from the residents, Ipoh City Council, BCCH and National Anti-Drugs Agency participated in another round of cleaning at the flats.
“We managed to clear away rubbish from 25 abandoned units. The city council workers also cleared the clogged drains in the vicinity,” shared Matthew.
He noted that while some residents were afraid to join in the earlier events held at the flats, they have now felt more comfortable during the recent activity. In fact, they have even expressed their appreciation for the cleaning efforts.
“I believe I can get their cooperation to continue keeping the place clean.”
