Updated KL City Plan 2020 To Be Released Next Week

12 Jul 2018

The newly elected government has promised to gazette the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 next week, after the previous administration delayed for 10 years the publication of this important document so that it can allegedly change land use for their own benefit.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad told The Malaysian Insight that they had wanted Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to immediately publish the plan, but they had to defer it to next week as there might be projects that contravene the plan.

“If there are any developments that go against the plan, we have to determine their implications first. We may have to update the plan. But we must understand developments have already gone against it, so there may be some legal implications.”

This is because a lot of things may have changed since KL City Plan 2020 was completed in 2008. For instance, DBKL during the time of the previous administration may have approved projects that are not in line with the plan.

“We have to talk about developments that are already building and what will happen when the city plan is approved… Which may bring DBKL ill will. We will have to update the local plan first, but this will take time,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Khalid reiterated that city councillors appointed by Barisan Nasional should resign as the latter has lost the election. He said DBKL will follow proper procedures to make them resign, although they have not set a deadline.

“Eventually we will be forced (to fire these appointees). If they still don’t want to resign and don’t understand, then we will follow the proper procedures,” he added.
