Federal Land and Building Tenants To Enjoy Extended Rent Exemption And Discount

The Federal Government has extended the exemption initiative as well as the 50% discount to federal land and building tenants.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the initiative’s extension was based on the objectives outlined in the Malaysian Economic and Rakyat’s Protection Assistance Package (PERMAI) by the government to support the viability of business, reported Bernama.

For Federal land tenants, the rent exemption’s extension involved the payment of four-months’ rents from 1 September to 31 December 2020 to 259 tenants approved for March to August 2020.

“A 50% discount on rent for six months from 1 January to 30 June 2021 is for all tenants,” said Shamsul Anuar as quoted by Bernama.

To manage the renting of premises and space within Federal buildings, he noted that the rent exemption’s extension if for 1 September to 31 December 2020 to tenants approved from March to August 2020.

“The granting of 50% discount is for six months from 1 January to 30 June 2021 is for all tenants,” he said.

He advised tenants of premises that are owned by the Federal Government like cafeterias, nurseries and convenient stores to refer to the Consumer Department of the Ministry over the matter.

During the announcement of the PRIHATIN Economic Stimulus Package in March 2020, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said premises that are owned by the Federal government like nurseries, school canteens and cafeterias will be exempted from rent for a period of six months.
