The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) apprehended a famous real estate developer in Penang with the title of ‘Datuk Seri’ along with his ‘Dato’ son on Tuesday (11 April), reported Free Malaysia Today.
The 74-year-old patriarch and his 47-year-old son were taken into custody at the MACC headquarters on Northam Road at 7pm yesterday and are being investigated for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
MACC revealed that they intend to get a remand order from the George Town Magistrate’s Court today for the duo, who have large property projects in Kepala Batas and Tanjung Bungah.
The government agency explained that they are looking into whether both persons played a role in the “land scandal” involving the foundation, Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang Bhd.
“The land scandal involves the disposal of hundreds of acres of real estate, following an investigation of another Datuk arrested on March 29, involving the same Yayasan,” it said.
Two weeks ago, the MACC arrested a 70-year-old Datuk for allegedly obtaining gifts valued at millions via his position as a Director at a Pernang-based foundation.
The Datuk was imprisoned for five days, but was subsequently released after he posted a RM100,000 bail after the Magistrate’s Court did not extend the remand requested by the MACC.
Meanwhile, sources shared that MACC’s investigations pertain to the foundation’s land deals.
