A datuk is among the three charged at the Selayang Sessions Court for allegedly cheating nine persons over payments for land transfers that amounted to RM689,181 six years ago, reported Bernama.

Facing nine charges, Datuk Nor Hasnal Hashmi as well as Sayyid Walid Hasuana and Mohd Rozali Rajiei – who faced five and four charges, respectively – all pleaded not guilty before Judge Rasyihah Ghazali.

They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 34, which sets out a maximum jail term of 10 years, whipping and fine.

Nor Hasnal and Sayyid Walid deceived five persons to make them believe that they would transfer land plots for the construction of five houses, which led them to hand over RM455,512 to Masgenuine Alliance Holdings Sdn Bhd as payment for the supposed land transfer.

Nor Hasnal and Mohd Rozali also faced four charges for committing similar offence on four others, persuading them to give RM689,181 to Darul Hebat Holdings Sdn Bhd for the non-existent land transfer.

The offences were allegedly committed between 16 January 2012 and 6 November 2015 in Bandar Baru Selayang, Gombak.

Deputy public prosecutor Rozana Husin proposed a RM230,000 bail for Nor Hasnal, RM100,000 for Mohd Rozali and RM130,000 for Sayyid Walid.

Lawyers Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican and Saleh Ahmad, who represented the three suspects, pleaded for the amount to be reduced.

As such, the court set a RM72,00 bail for Nor Hasnal, RM48,000 for Sayyid Walid and RM26,000 for Mohd Rozal, with one surety each.

Aside from this, Judge Rasyihah also required the three to hand over their passports to the court, mandated them not to harass the victims including their families, and to report to the police station two times a month.

The court set the case for mention on 17 May.
