Kepong Residents Want Shortcut Closed Permanently

Residents of PPR Intan Baiduri in Kepong want Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to permanently close a shortcut used by non-resident motorists as this is causing traffic jams in the area and creating great inconvenience to the locals, reported The Star.

PPR Intan Baiduri Block A chief Khairul Anuwar Yusoff revealed that the inner roads at their housing project are being used as a shortcut by vehicles from Taman Selayang Indah and Taman Selayang Bahagia to get to the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

“We have asked DBKL to seal off the makeshift access road from Jalan Indah 3 to the PPR. To DBKL’s credit, concrete barriers were placed at the access about two weeks ago.”

“However, the barriers were removed within a week and the problem is still unresolved. We do not know who shifted them,” he explained.

Consequently, the large number of cars from the nearby neighbourhood are causing problems to the 9,000 residents in PPR Intan Baiduri, especially during peak hours for those going to work or school.

“Without the additional traffic, it takes me five minutes to get to MRR2. With motorists using our roads as a shortcut, it takes half an hour to get to the exit,” he explained.

As such, PPR Intan Baiduri Residents Association Deputy Chairman Nasir Sali is urging DBKL to build a concrete fence that can’t be easily removed.

“We have been communicating with DBKL for three years to do something about this.”

“Most of the flats’ residents have also agreed that the road should be closed off,” he added.
