The authorities have promised to address the issue on abandoned buildings in Labuan, reported Bernama.
Abandoned buildings there include Hotel Labuan, Medan Selera and the Billion Resort Hotel, which was previously known as Waterfront Hotel.
In particular, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) is considering to redevelop the Hotel Labuan, which has been left abandoned for over 30 years, said Labuan Corporation CEO Datuk Azhar Ahmad.
“We are aware that the building has been an eyesore to the public and to this effect, Labuan Corporation has already submitted a number of development proposals to MoF for consideration.”
“We hope MOF will come up with a decision soon on what is best for the building.”
On the Billion Resort Hotel, which is under bank receivership and is no longer in operations, the authorities will ask the receivers to properly maintain the property and clean up the garbage and trim the overgrown plants there.
“Notice will be issued to the hotel’s appointed receiver and manager to carry out cleaning works and keep the place in safe and tidy condition,” he noted.
Regarding the abandoned food court at Labuan’s downtown area, there are plans to use it as a parking area, added Azhar.
He said this after Bernama News Channel (BNC) reported on Monday (17 Sept) that the aforementioned abandoned buildings have become ugly sights for guests and tourists visiting Labuan.
