Penang Confident Of Delivering On Its Affordable Home Promise

21 Sept 2018

Penang is confident of building 75,000 affordable homes by 2022, as per promised during the 14th General Election, reported The Star.

In fact, the total number of homes already built and those in progress have already surpassed the target.

“The state had pledged to build 75,000 units of affordable homes in Penang, and we have surpassed the number,” said Jagdeep Singh Deo, Chairman of State Housing, Town, Country Planning and Local Government Committee.

“So far, 28,915 units of low-cost, low medium-cost and various types of affordable housing have been built in Penang since 2008…A further 22,065 units of such housing are in various stages of being built and 32,212 more units have been approved to be built,” he noted.

“This brings the grand total to over 80,000 units to date.”

Jagdeep had earlier announced the fifth edition of the annual Penang Property Summit 2019.

The event, which will be organised by the Penang State Housing Committee in partnership with Penevents Sdn Bhd, will be held on 5 to 6 January 2019 at Setia SPICE Arena.

With activities including public talks and seminars, the two-day event will see Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin speak on the property industry.
